6 Sports Player Of The Week October 14

(WLNS) – It’s Player of the Week time and sometimes the 8-man teams fly under the radar.

But we’ve taken notice of some huge numbers being put up at Morrice, where the Orioles are learning to love their smaller, faster football.

Congratulations, Jake Rivers, 6 Sports Player of the Week!

Only ten players on this Morrice team, and Jake Rivers is the best offensive weapon this season.

On Friday, the Orioles christened their new stadium, complete with lights, and Rivers ran wild.

He scored six touchdowns for the second time this season.

He now has 30 on the year.

He scored five on offense Friday, plus a pick-6 for a 77-to-6 win over Kindle North Huron.

Our Player of the Week award is his first football trophy.

All this success means a lot to Rivers and a Morrice program that was barely surviving when it made the switch to 8-man football two years ago.

“I honestly haven’t ever had a trophy. I always have the papers saying all-state for this, all-conference area but I’ve never had a trophy before,” says Rivers. “I really do like how our community here is really getting a lot more noticeable. Um, I’m glad to share this trophy with my team. Honestly, I couldn’t do it without them.”
