UPDATE – 20-year-old Brennon Wood has been sentenced to 90 days in jail, 36 months probation and ordered to pay $8,000 in restitution for abusing his girlfriend’s dog.
The abuse took place last year between August and November.
During that time family members noticed that “Buster” the dog would be in pain after being alone with Wood.
The dog was found to have seven broken ribs and a punctured lung.
Today in court Wood apologized for the emotional distress he caused his former girlfriend and her family.
CHARLOTTE, Mich (WLNS) – An Eaton County man will be sentenced today for abusing his girlfriend’s small dog.
Last month 20-year-old Brennon Wood of Charlotte was convicted on charges of animal cruelty.
Police and prosecutors say he abused his girlfriend’s dog for months.
Today he is scheduled to be sentenced and will find out just how long he’ll stay behind bars.
Eaton County authorities say Wood broke seven of the dog’s ribs and caused a punctured lung.
He’s convicted of torturing and maiming an animal.
In this case he abused Buster, a 5-year-old Shih Tzu.
According to the prosecutor Wood’s girlfriend and family members noticed Buster suddenly started showing injuries near his eye and stomach when only Wood was home.
That is what tipped them off to the abuse.
Wood’s conviction carries a maximum sentence of 4 years in prison and or a $5,000 fine as well as 500 hours of community service.
