DeWitt downs Harper Creek in prep volleyball showdown

LANSING, Mich (WLNS) – Monday night say a very exciting high school volleyball match between two of the top teams in the state in their divisions. Battle Creek Harper Creek is ranked third in division and DeWitt is honorable mention so something had to give in this showdown at DeWitt’s noisy gymnasium. The panthers with a record of 25 and 1 coming in.

DeWitt won the first game, it’s a best 3 out of 5. They also won the second game to take a 2-nothing match lead.

Harper Creek roared back to win game three to force a fourth game. Harper Creek also won game four 27 to 25.

So it went to a fifth and deciding game won when Brook Binkley set Lexi Nordman for the kill shot Harper Creek can’t return and that led to Christy Thelen celebrating a 15 to 11 win in game five and a 3-2 match win.

Fred: How big is that win at this stage of the season?
Coach Thelen: um, it’s huge….last year we lost to Harper Creek in 5 at Harper Creek um, and so they’re always just a great, great team to play—we always cross with them and it’s a great mid-season game for our girls.
Fred: This was exciting….did you get caught up in it a little bit?
Coach Thelen: Yea, of course, I mean the students were here cheering it was….5 games…anytime volleyball goes 5 games…yea, I feel like just played…that’s why I’m sweaty….ha ha ha ha
