Michigan’s annual ArtPrize competition enters its 7th year

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) – Michigan’s annual ArtPrize competition is entering its seventh year.

The 19-day event starts Wednesday and includes a series to extend ArtPrize beyond the hours that venues usually were open. Organizers say there are more than 1,550 entries by artists from around the world, with displays on view around the Grand Rapids area.

This year, ArtPrize partnered with organizers of a Grand Rapids festival that featured works by artists with disabilities to explore and expand access to the arts. The inaugural DisArt Festival was held earlier this year and the message of “Art is Every Body” will be highlighted at ArtPrize.

ArtPrize runs through to Oct. 11 and artists will compete for $500,000 in prizes, including a $200,000 grand prize selected by public vote.
