(WLNS) – A 60-year-old oil pipeline has been the focus of debate for more than a year.
New legislation is looking to lighten concerns.
Later Wednesday morning U.S. Senator Gary Peters will introduce a bill, drafted to improve pipeline safety, and protect the Great Lakes from future oil spills.
Environmentalists have been calling for the Enbridge Oil Pipeline which runs through the straits of Mackinac to be shut down.
They’re worried about a future leak, or rupture.
The company says the pipeline is safe.
Later this week Enbridge plans to do “oil spill response drills” at the controversial pipeline.
