LANSING, MI (WLNS) – Following a six hour manhunt Meridian Township police have two men behind bars after a string of car break-ins and a shot was fired near Cornell and Haslett roads.
“We believe that we’ve got the individuals located and arrested and that we’ll have those weapons secured pretty soon” Lieutenant Greg Frenger of Meridian Township Police said.
The search began when police responded to a possible car break in at 6:47 a.m. this Thursday.
“As the officer was checking the area where this occurred, he heard a gunshot go off nearby, and he knew it wasn’t immediately in his area but we knew a gun had gone off.” Lt. Frenger said.
Officers found about ten vehicles broken into and multiple items missing including three fire arms, one a shot gun.
Officers and canines went on a search, and a Nixle was sent out with the description of the possibly armed man; and Haslett schools were informed and put on lock down.
Around 1 p.m. the two suspects were found only a few miles away from Cornell and Haslett roads.
“I believe one is 17 and he’s a male from Lansing or Holt. And I’m not sure the age on the other individual; he’s also a younger person.” Frenger said.
The names of the suspects have not been released but according to police the two young men are being held in the Ingham county jail awaiting charges.
The suspects are expected to be arraigned tomorrow.
