Police: Man fatally shot after firing at Michigan officers

TOBACCO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Police say they fatally shot a man who fired at officers who had surrounded a home in Michigan’s northern Lower Peninsula.

The Gladwin County sheriff’s department says deputies were sent to Tobacco Township on Thursday morning following reports of a man who was yelling and firing shots. They approached the man and the department says he fired at a marked patrol car.

The department says the man continued to fire shots and a state police emergency response was called to the home, located about 125 miles northwest of Detroit.

Police say the man went inside a home and then emerged to open fire again at officers. Police say he was fatally shot by a member of the team.

The man’s name wasn’t immediately released.
