FENTON, Mich. (AP) – A high school is serving as the site of a funeral for a Michigan State Police trooper who was killed while on motorcycle patrol.

Chad Wolf will be remembered today at Fenton High School at a 1:00 p.m. funeral.

The 38-year-old Wolf died Friday, hours after he was struck by a car hauling a trailer and dragged for miles in northern Oakland County. He had been a trooper since 2008.

Lt. Mike Shaw says police officers from as far as California and Texas plan to attend the funeral. The service will be led by the pastor of Great Lakes Baptist Church in Holly, where Wolf was a youth minister. He was married and had four children.

This morning the Wolf family issued this statement:

“On behalf of Chad’s entire family, we would like to thank the citizens of the state of Michigan and across the country for their support during this tragedy. We would especially like to thank the Michigan State Police Troopers Association for the overwhelming care they have shown all of us. The troopers have provided 24/7 care and attention, as well as meals, housing and transportation. We cannot express in words how much their love and concern has meant to us.
We want to thank all of those who have reached out to us through social media and donations. This has been a difficult time for our family, but knowing we have care and compassion from people around the nation makes this burden a little lighter to bear. Let’s remember not only our family is in pain. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the other family affected by this tragedy.
Our hearts also go out to the families of other recently fallen officers. You are not alone. May we share this burden together.
Thank you.”

Wolf was born in Geneseo, Illinois. He attended high school in Annawan, Illinois, and college in Pensacola, Florida.
