LANSING, MI (WLNS) – Officials at the Lansing Board of Water and Light say the coal plant that supplies power in Lansing and keeps a General Motors plant up and running will be shut down within four years.
David Price chairs the Board of Commissioners at the utility. He says the BWL will set up a Community Review Team to find the best way to go about the transition.
The team of between six and eight people will hold open hearings and meetings to hear from the community about what should be done with the plant once it closes.
Price says the board will review the options next summer.
He says keeping the Eckert Plant open for any longer than four years would be too expensive and too much of an investment.
