BIRCH RUN, Mich. (WLNS)—GOP presidential candidate poll leader Donald Trump is bringing his political message to Michigan.

Trump will speak during a fundraising event at the Birch Run Expo Center Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Recent polls show nearly a quarter of Republican voters still support the billionaire businessman.

Congressman Tim Walberg spoke with 6 News before Trump’s appearance.

He said Trump made some comments recently that have offended people, but that all the candidates will make mistakes before the election.

Walberg expects all the Republican candidates will come to Michigan to share their ideas for America.

Although the GOP presidential race is crowded with more than three dozen people announcing their candidacy, Walberg says he will support whoever wins the Republican nomination.

“In my mind though, it’s a demonstration that we have a wealth of candidates and ideas in the Republican Party with a bankruptcy party on the other side,” he added.

Democrats held a rally ahead of Trump’s appearance, protesting what they called “his harmful attacks on Mexican Americans, veterans and women.”

Protesters lined the streets leading to the Birch Run Expo Center, waving signs and American flags.

“I’m protesting today because I’m a strong believer that Trump’s stances against women and on the economy are both bad for this country and bad for the people of this country,” added Marissa Coloske of the Michigan Democratic Party.

The sold out Lincoln Day event was organized by the Genesee and Saginaw county Republican parties.
