Unclaimed $1 million lottery prize goes to School Aid Fund

GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WLNS) – The $1 million prize from an unclaimed Mega Millions ticket has gone to the School Aid Fund.

Lottery rules say winning Mega Millions tickets are valid for one year from the date of the drawing.

Whoever the ticket belongs to matched the first five numbers drawn in the Aug. 5, 2014 drawing, which were 25, 28, 36, 45 and 53.

The winner had until 4:45 p.m. Wednesday to claim their prize. Lottery officials say the ticket was sold at a Grand Rapids CVS Pharmacy.

In 2014 five major prizes went unclaimed. That money was added to the School Aid Fund. The Michigan Lottery says the $1 million Mega Millions ticket is the first large prize to go unclaimed this year.

According to the Michigan Lottery the record for an unclaimed lottery prize was set in 1998. A winning Michigan Lotto game ticket worth $34 million went unclaimed.
