Kraft recalls cheese singles over choking hazard

NORTHFIELD, Ill. (NEWS10) – The Kraft Heinz company is recalling certain packages of cheese singles because they may present a choking hazard.

Our sister station WKRN reports the company announced that it was recalling one pound, three pound and four pound sizes of individually wrapped Kraft Singles American and White American cheese.

The affected products have a Best When Used By date of December 29 through January 4, 2016 followed by the manufacturing code S54 or S55.

Kraft Heinz said a thin strip of the packaging film could remain adhered to the cheese slice even after the wrapper has been removed.

There have been 10 customer complaints to date, and three people reportedly almost choked, according to Kraft.

Approximately 36,000 cases of the recalled product were shipped by Kraft Heinz retailers in the U.S., Puerto Rico and Grand Cayman.

Kraft said anyone who purchased the product should return it to the store where purchased for an exchange or full refund.
