Ohio pizza driver killed after being lured out on fake order

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — A pizza delivery driver was shot and killed late Thursday night after police say he was lured out of his store with a fake order.

Police were called shortly after 10:30 p.m. Thursday to the intersection of South Hamilton Road and Kimberly Parkway after a report of a minivan crashed into a pole.

Our sister station WCMH reports officers discovered a 59-year-old man inside the van with at least one gunshot wound.

The victim was taken to an area hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest where he was later pronounced dead.

According to police, the victim was a pizza delivery driver who was attempting to make a delivery at a nearby home on Kenaston Drive when he was shot during an altercation.

Investigators said the home was vacant and that it is likely that he was set up for a robbery. Investigators believe there was more than one robber and say they got away with two pizzas and a small amount of cash.

He was able to get into his van and drive away, but came to a stop just a few blocks away from the Papa John’s store where he worked.

Hamilton Road was closed in the area while police investigated.
