(WLNS) – Someone called police Friday evening to let them know of a man putting together an explosive device.
It happened around 6:07 p.m. in the 1900 block of Forest Ave.
The caller told police the person had suicidal tendencies and had left before officers arrived.
Officers are familiar with the person and they checked the 6800 block of Helman in south Lansing. That’s where officers found the person in his car. The man got out of his car and cooperated with officers.
Due to the concern of an explosive device or pieces to create one in the man’s car, police acted quickly. Lansing Police, the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State University Police helped to set up a perimeter and evacuate residents one block in each direction.
The Michigan State Police Bomb Squad was brought in to help. They examined the car and home, then told officials the area was safe around 8:10 p.m.
A 46-year-old Lansing man was taken into protective custody. Michigan State Police seized materials for destruction.
Police say the man will not be charged based on the materials found.
