Tax proposal to improve schools on Eaton Co. ballot

EATON COUNTY, Mich. (WLNS)– On Tuesday, Charlotte Public Schools will ask voters to approve a tax proposal that would help pay for building improvements.

The proposal on the Aug. 4 ballot is to limit the tax on all district property to 1 mill for a decade.  The special rate would be in effect from 2015 to 2024.  The district estimates it would collect $535,000 in the first year of the millage.  The funds would go toward repair or construction of school buildings, as well as “all other purposes authorized by law.”

The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

6 News will be closely following all the key races in mid-Michigan and will post the latest results online here.
