Michigan 5.8 percent unemployment rate holds steady in June

LANSING, MI (AP) – Michigan’s seasonally unadjusted unemployment rate has held steady in the latest report from the state.

The Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget released June’s state and regional employment figures Thursday. The statewide rate is 5.8 percent, compared with 5.9 percent in May and 7.7 percent in June 2014.

The department says the jobless rates were little changed in most regions, falling 0.6 points to 5.6 percent in the northwestern Lower Peninsula.

It says unemployment rates ranged from 4.2 percent in Grand Rapids areas to 7 percent in the northeastern Lower Peninsula.

The department says the jobless rate in populous metropolitan Detroit was unchanged at 6.6 percent. That’s down 2.3 points from 8.9 percent a year earlier.
