MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLNS)— A local fire department’s success at saving lives is getting statewide recognition.

The Meridian Township Fire Department is Sparrow Health System’s Outstanding EMS Agency of the Year. The honor is based on how many people the fire department transported to hospitals, as well as the number and type of calls they responded to and their success in helping people in cardiac arrest.

The fire department was also recognized with a legislative tribute signed by Governor Snyder.

“As a resident of Meridian Township, but also as their state senator, I’m greatly honored to have these people serve me and serve the public,” said State Sen. Curtis Hertel Jr.

We welcome thoughts and comments from our viewers. We ask that everyone keep their remarks civil and respectful. Postings that contain profanity, racist, or potentially libelous remarks will be deleted. We will delete any commercial postings, as well.
