LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)—The wet Michigan summer is leading to a bumper crop of mosquitoes, driving up demand for bug repellent.
Some area stores are struggling to keep their shelves stocked as customers buy bug spray by the cart-full.
Fortunately, there are alternatives to rid your property of mosquitoes.
“Get rid of the water around the area. Any puddles, any large areas of water need to be taken care if because that’s basically what attracts them, along with the body scent of humans,” explained Brian Hackett, assistant manager of Ace Hardware in the Frandor Shopping Center.
Bug bites aren’t just itchy; they can also be a health risk. So far this year, Michigan has confirmed at least two cases of West Nile virus.
