LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – The Lansing Promise to college hopefuls is even stronger, thanks to a giant check from the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce.
The Chamber’s Lansing Economic Club recently presented a check for $18,449 to the Lansing Promise scholarship program as part of the group’s Evening with Magic Johnson dinner benefit. The April 30th benefit raised more than $1 million for the Lansing Promise, with $300,000 coming directly from Earvin “Magic” Johnson.
The Lansing Promise organization was created to provide higher education at little or no cost to award-winning students. Participating students can earn an associate’s degree at Lansing Community College or the equivalent at Michigan State University.
In turn, the more experienced workforce helps attract jobs and business investments to the area, boosting the local economy.
The Lansing Promise scholarship not only helps to lead Lansing’s students to brighter futures, but also provides a talent pipeline for our regions business community. We are proud to see the way that Lansing has responded to this great cause and excited to see the impact it has on our community,” Chamber CEO and President Tim Daman said in a statement released Tuesday.
