LANSING, MI (AP) – Ride-hailing services that allow people to request rides using smartphone apps would be regulated by the state without the option for local regulations under a package approved by the Michigan House.
The House approved each of the five bills Wednesday with 70 votes or more.
The package would regulate ride-hailing services differently than taxi or limo services, which fall under a mix of state and local regulations.
An amendment made on the House floor would require airports to allow ride-hailing services to pick up and drop off customers on airport property. It would also prevent drivers for ride-hailing services from being on airport property unless they are on a prearranged ride, leaving after completing a ride, or if they have an operating agreement with the airport.
