New law will prevent food bank donors from getting sued

LANSING, MI (WLNS) – If you are looking to donate to local food banks you can now do so without having to worry about getting sued.

A new law just signed by the governor means donors cannot be held liable if the food they donate gets someone sick. The lack of such a law prevented lots of people including caterers, restaurant workers and farmers from donating fresh food to local food banks.

Now that the law is in place, food banks hope more people will be willing to give.

The new law requires food banks to have someone on staff to inspect the food before it is handed out, something many food banks are already doing.

If you would now like to donate to a local food bank just head to the Seen on 6 section of our website.
