LANSING, MI (AP) – A Michigan Senate committee plans to hold an advice and consent hearing on the recent appointment of a former utility executive as state treasurer.
The Senate Financial Committee is scheduled to hold a hearing Wednesday morning on Gov. Rick Snyder’s appointment of Nick Khouri as state treasurer. Khouri was Senior Vice President at DTE Energy in Detroit.
The Republican governor announced the appointment March 17, and it took effect April 20.
Senate Democratic Minority Leader Jim Ananich requested the hearing from Senate Republican Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof, who went forward with the suggestion.
The Michigan Constitution lets the Senate hold hearings up to 60 session days after an appointment is made. An appointment can be disapproved by a majority of the Senate in that period.
