UPDATE: Suspect in custody in connection to Jackson Co. homicide

BLACKMAN TOWNSHIP, MI (WLNS) – Blackman Township police say they have a man in custody in connection to the death of a woman in her 70’s.

According to our media partners at Mlive, it all happened Monday night at a local Meijer when a woman was approached by a 47-year-old Blackman Township man and asked if she needed help with her groceries. When the woman refused he knocked her to the ground and got away with her purse.

An investigation into that robbery was already underway when officers discovered a body inside of a home on the 400 block of Seminole Road on Tuesday. Officers quickly ruled the death suspicious and were able to link the two incidents.

Officials arrested the man Tuesday.

Police have not yet released the name of the suspect or the victim and will not until the family has been notified. However they do say the suspect and the victim are related.

The suspects name will be released pending his arraignment.
