Democrats oppose move to new building

(WLNS) – Democrats are still trying to stop the move to a new senate office building.

They think the $134 million would be better spent elsewhere.

Lawmakers also announced a package of bills they say will prevent expensive projects like this from happening in the future.

Democrats say that with all of the important issues facing the state…a new office building is an unnecessary luxury.

“We believe that there are a lot of important priorities facing the people of our state then spending dollars on a self-serving office building for legislators. We need to focus on getting adequate funding to our schools, fixing our roads and making the middle class succeed in a time when they are getting squeezed from all directions,” said state rep Tim Greimel, house democratic leader.

The senate is expected to move out into the new building 2017.
