HAWAII (WLNS) – A Marine is dead and 21 others are recovering in the hospital after a military aircraft went down Sunday at Bellows Air Force Base, Hawaii.

Officials are not sure what caused the plane to go down but say it was a “hard landing mishap” during a routine training exercise.

Several injured Marines were training at the station during the time of the crash.

The Marine unit on board the plane is based at Camp Pendleton in California.
