DETROIT, MI (WLNS) – A funeral is scheduled for today in suburban Detroit for Rachel Jacobs, the 39-year-old educational software start-up chief executive and Michigan native killed in Tuesday’s Amtrak crash in Philadelphia.
The funeral is set for 10 a.m. at the Ira Kaufman Chapel in Southfield.
Jacobs grew up in suburban Detroit and graduated from Berkley High School and has a master’s degree from Columbia Business School. She is the daughter of former State Senator Glida Jacobs Chief Executive of the Michigan League for Public Policy.
Rachel was returning home to New York when the train crashed, killing eight and leaving several others injured.
She leaves behind a husband and 2-year-old son.
The crash left one of the busiest railroad systems in the country paralyzed for just under a week and today Amtrak says they will resume full service in the north-east corridor. The investigation into the crash is still on going.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the FBI are looking into the possibility that some sort of object hit the windshield moments before it crashed. Officials with Amtrak are implementing new speed control technology to make sure trains do not go over the speed limit.
It may take a year before the full investigation is finished.
