HOWELL, MI (AP) – A jury has begun deliberating the fate of a 69-year-old man charged with murder in the fatal shooting of another motorist in southeastern Michigan.
Martin Zale took the stand Tuesday in his own defense at his trial in Livingston County Circuit Court in Howell. The case went to the jury about 3:15 p.m.
Zale shot Derek Fleming last September near Howell, 45 miles northwest of Detroit. Witnesses say Fleming walked up to Zale’s pickup truck to complain about aggressive driving while both were stopped in traffic.
Zale says he shot Fleming in self-defense after Flemming hit him in the face and had his head and arms inside Zale’s truck.
Under cross examination, Zale said he intended to kill Flemming when he pulled the trigger.
