UPDATE 12:10 p.m. – Joshua Harrington will have a probable cause hearing on May 13 at 11 a.m. in Hillsdale Co. District Court.
HILLSDALE COUNTY, MI (WLNS) – A Hillsdale County man is behind bars after police say he abused a woman’s child, wouldn’t let her leave his home and threatened he had explosives.
The Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Department says 39-year-old Joshua Harrington from Pittsford was with the woman and her children.
They say, he offered to put the woman’s 17-month-old daughter to bed.
But moments later officials say the woman heard her daughter scream and when she got upstairs she found her daughter bleeding from the mouth.
The woman attempted to leave with her children and that’s when police say Harrington stopped her and made threats.
“I’ll just let you know this house has been rigged to explode, I have explosives all around the house and mentioned something about how all he’d have to do is go into the basement and flip a switch and the whole house would go,” said Sheriff Stan Burchardt, Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Department.
According to the sheriff the woman and her children were able escape hours later and run to a neighbor’s house.
Officials say they did not find explosives at the scene.
Harrington is now in the Hillsdale County Jail and faces charges of child abuse and false imprisonment.
