Man Found Not Breathing In Lansing Detention Facility

LANSING, MI (WLNS) – The Lansing Police Department has identified the 39-year-old man who died after he was found not breathing at a Lansing Detention Facility.

Christopher Lee Phillips, 39, from Delta Township was found not breathing around 5:12 p.m. Monday.

Phillips was in a general population cell at the time. Police say Phillips was in custody for a misdemeanor traffic charge.

Officers performed CPR, then the Lansing Fire Department took Phillips to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:44 p.m.

The Ingham County Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy and toxicology exams before determining how Phillips died.

Michigan State Police will also investigate, then turn the case over to the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office.
