LANSING, MI (WLNS) – Lansing police are investigating the death of a man who stopped breathing while in police custody.
On Monday evening, detention officers were performing a standard cell check at the Lansing Police lockup when officials say they found the 39-year-old man from Delta Township in a general population cell unresponsive.
Officers immediately started CPR until the fire department got on scene. Police say the man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to officials he was in custody for a misdemeanor traffic charge.
Police are waiting on autopsy results and other tests to figure out how he died.
