Students Celebrate Arbor Day

(WLNS) – Friday marks Arbor Day and all day events have been happening across mid-Michigan, including Lansing’s Potter Park Zoo.

Zoo officials played host to more than a thousand second and third graders to celebrate trees Friday.

At the same time as the kids were having fun with nature, officials from Michigan International Speedway and Consumers Energy were on hand to announce they’re teaming up to donate 50,000 trees across the state.

“We provide a cleaner and greener Michigan for Michigan’s future generations. You know trees provide a whole host of benefits, environmentally and culturally too!” said Doug Tamboer, Consumers Energy sustainability director.

The 50,000 white pines will be split between the nearly 80 conservation districts in Michigan.
