Happy 10th Birthday YouTube

(WLNS) – Thursday, April 23 marks YouTube’s 10th birthday.

The video-sharing website uploaded its first clip on April 23, 2005.

YouTube started with an 18-second video called, “Me at the Zoo.” Co-founder of YouTube, Jawed Karim can be seen standing in front of an elephant enclosure at the San Diego Zoo, commenting on the animals.

Over the past 10 years YouTube’s popularity has continued to grow, as users discover they can create their own channel and share just about anything they want, within guidelines of course. YouTube is home to a variety of comedic videos that can brighten your day, tutorials for the life-long learner, millions of video blogs, music videos and even nostalgic clips from TV shows.

The official birthday celebration for YouTube’s 10 birthday will be in May, according to YouTube’s Facebook page.

We welcome thoughts and comments from our viewers. We ask that everyone keep their remarks civil and respectful. Postings that contain profanity, racist, or potentially libelous remarks will be deleted. We will delete any commercial postings, as well.
