Lansing Man Arrested; Charged With Stealing Money From Kids’ Sports League

(WLNS) – The director of mid-Michigan’s Tri-County Youth Sports League is charged with stealing more than $50,000 from the league.

The Michigan State Police tell 6 News that 54-year old John Ayers was arrested Wednesday in Lansing. He’s facing three felony charges of embezzlement, larceny and uttering and publishing.

According to investigators they received a complaint from a representative of the Tri-County Youth Sports League in last June. An investigation was begun and the results were presented to the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office.

During that investigation is was found that between 2009 and 2014 more than $50,000 was embezzled from the league. The league is a sports league that encompasses ten local communities. Teams in the league play each other in both football and basketball.

Ayers has been released on bail.
