Prevent Damage By Dialing 811 Before You Dig

(WLNS) – Warm weather brings so many new things and it also brings construction season.

Officials with the Michigan Department Public Service Commission got together with local utilities for the annual Michigan Safety Conference.

The event looked at how to avoid damage to utility lines by dialing 8-1-1 before construction begins.

Officials also laid out requirements for reporting incidents involving damage to underground facilities.

“April is the time when home owners and others like to get outdoors and do projects big and small and it’s important to call 8-1-1 and get your property marked before you dig,” said John D. Quackenbush, chairmen, Michigan Public Service Commission.

Dialing 8-1-1 connects you to “Miss Dig,” which is a state wide call center for construction safety and utility damage prevention.
