MSU Fraternity Steps Up To Fight Sexual Assault

(WLNS) – Last November the University of Virginia’s Phi Kappa Psi fraternity was the headline of a Rolling Stone’s Magazine article, ‘Rape on Campus’ and it had people all over the country talking.

About 650 miles away from Virginia, brothers of the MSU chapter started talking too.

“We all decided we need to take a step up for all the wrongdoings that other fraternities may have or may be accused of,” said John Ko, president, MSU Phi Kappa Psi Beta Chapter.

Stepping up meant taking up the campaign “It’s On Us” to stand up to sexual assault on MSU’s campus.

“We had thousands of people take the pledge to prevent or act upon any sexual assault that happens within their lives.”

On Monday, Rolling Stone retracted the article and the national fraternity is taking legal action against the magazine, but true or not true, the article started a discussion here at MSU‘s chapter.

“From the beginning of this article to the end it kind of opened my eyes, my fraternity’s eyes as well stop being a bystander if you recognize a situation is happening may it be your own friend or you know some random person take action.”

A conversation Ko says they want to see continue.

The local chapter isn’t the only one participating in the “It’s On Us” campaign.

MSU athletics has also been a part of the movement along with MSU’s student government.
