Author Of False Rolling Stone Rape Story Apologizes

(WLNS) – The author of a Rolling Stone magazine article about an alleged gang rape on the University of Virginia’s campus is apologizing today. Sabrina Erdely says she did not go far enough to verify the story.

The magazine officially retracted the article called “A Rape on Campus” after the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism released a report Sunday calling it a story of journalistic failure.

Rolling Stone had asked for the independent review. A four month police investigation found no evidence the attack happened.

The November article focused on a student named Jackie who said she was sexually assaulted by seven men at a fraternity house.

We welcome thoughts and comments from our viewers. We ask that everyone keep their remarks civil and respectful. Postings that contain profanity, racist, or potentially libelous remarks will be deleted. We will delete any commercial postings, as well.
