(WLNS) – Jackson mayoral candidate Eugene Hurd says he’s a winner. Court records say he spent nearly ten months in jail for stealing a laptop computer and retail fraud charges. Right now he is awaiting sentencing on a July arrest for marijuana possession and driving while impaired.
According to our media partners at MLive, Hurd served 180 days in jail once he pleaded guilty to larceny after stealing a laptop computer from the Jackson Area Career Center on June 7, 2010. The incident is one the candidate says he “deeply regrets.”
Hurd is scheduled to be sentenced next Monday on the July convictions. Despite his past Hurd insists he’s confident of the future. “Just like I’m being held accountable for my crimes, the city needs to be held accountable for their failures,” Hurd said of his run for mayor. “I’m not going to give up. I’m a winner.”
