INKSTER, Mich. (AP) – Authorities in the Detroit suburb of Inkster are planning a news conference to discuss the videotaped beating of a black motorist by white police officers.
The dashcam video that WDIV-TV broadcast Tuesday shows an officer punching 57-year-old Floyd Dent as police arrest him Jan. 28. Police say Dent refused to stop his car and then resisted arrest.
Dent says he spent three days in the hospital with broken ribs, blood on his brain and other injuries.
Inkster City Richard J. Marsh Jr. and a representative of the Western Wayne County chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People called a news conference for Thursday morning to discuss the case.
Police say officers stopped Dent near a known drug-selling site and found crack cocaine in his car.
