East Lansing Man Arrested Following Protest At Capitol

EAST LANSING, MI (WLNS) – A 20-year-old East Lansing man has been arrested and is expected to be charged with resisting and obstructing a police investigation.

Lansing Police Officer Robert Merritt told 6 News the man obstructed an interview by Lansing Police following a protest that started at the Capitol Thursday.

The protest involved the student group, Michigan Student Power Network. On the group’s return to the Lansing City Market, witnesses told police they noticed a woman (who was part of the group) walking with a 2 year old about a foot away from oncoming traffic along Cedar.

When officers attempted to question the woman, the East Lansing man obstructed the officers.

His name has not been released because he has not been formally charged. Officials did not go into further details on the charges.

Police will be seeking child endangerment charges for the woman with the 2 year old, but say the woman is not related to the child.
