(WLNS) – For nearly 50 years the landmark Spartan polar bear has been a fixture in the Natural Resources Building. It’s a place for clubs to gather, people to meet and friends to get together.

But the polar bear is showing his age. He needs a facelift and a touch-up here and there. At nine-feet tall and 300 pounds, that’s a lot of work.

A group is organizing an online effort to raise $6,000 to restore the Spartan polar bear. As of today they have collected nearly $1,500 in donations. Supporters can give online until April 26.

The restoration work will be coordinated by MSU’s Department of Fisheries and Wildlife and the Fisheries and Wildlife Club.
