Elementary Students Collect Pennies To Help Vets Get Service Dogs

LANSING, MI (WLNS) – A local elementary school is working to raise money for Michigan veterans who need service dogs.

When students at Post Oak Elementary School in Lansing heard about local veteran Eric Calley and his service dog being mistreated by a national airline they decided to do something about it.

The school has been running a penny drive all month long. The money raised will go towards Liberty’s Legacy Foundation.

Calley visited students Monday morning to thank them for their continued help.

“They love the fact that they’re raising money to not only create an avenue to get some more service dogs, but they’re paving a way for Michigan to start coming together and getting more service dogs up to our great state,” said Eric Calley, veteran, Liberty’s Legacy.

The student will collect pennies through the end of the month.
