LANSING, MI (WLNS) – We have an update for you on a story we first told you about last September.
An open child abuse investigation has finally led to charges against the mother of a two month-old boy.
23 year-old Alexandra Alexi from Lansing was arrested and charged in District court Friday.
Alexi faces four felony counts including Open Murder, which carries a penalty of life in prison if found guilty.
Prosecutors also charged her with torture and child abuse in the first and third degree.
Back in September, Lansing Police were called to the 600 block of Sadie Court.
When they got there, they found a two month-old baby boy named Julian Alexi, not breathing.
Police say his mother Alexandra Alexi and her boyfriend were found attempting CPR.
Paramedics rushed the child to the hospital, where doctors noticed the baby had significant bleeding in his brain.
The baby later died from those injuries. 6 News spoke with the county prosecutor who says upon their investigation, officials believe the baby had been tortured for 59 days, from July to September.
Ingham County Prosecutor, Stuart Dunnings III put the investigation into perspective.
“I can tell you that this child lived 59 days of pure hell if our allegations are true,” Dunnings III said. “I want to read you the language of torture, did with intent to cause cruel or extreme physical or mental pain and suffering, inflict great bodily injury or severe mental pain or suffering upon Julian Alexi.. a person within his or her custody or physical control.”
Alexi is being held on a $200,000 bond and is expected to be in court again next month.
At this point the investigation is still ongoing. There is no word yet on whether the boyfriend will face any charges.
