UPDATE 9:30 a.m. – Sentencing has been delayed in the case of a Potterville father accused of abusing his two children. 40-year-old Shawnn Degner had made a plea agreement prior to today’s scheduled sentencing. Eaton County Circuit Court Janice Cunningham today announced that she was changing the agreement to sentence Degner to the maximum penalty on two felony second degree child abuse and one Fourth degree criminal sexual conduct charges. The abuse cases have a maximum of 10 years in prison on each count and the CSC 4th has a maximum of 2 years in prison.
Degner’s sentencing has been rescheduled for April 3. he remains out on bond while awaiting that sentencing date.

EATON COUNTY, MI (WLNS) – Today a Potterville man will find out how long he will call prison home.
Accused of abusing two teens, 40-year-old Shawnn Michael Degner pled guilty to two felony counts of second degree child abuse. His wife 37-year-old Meagan Ann Degner was tried and also convicted of the same child abuse charges.
The two children involved are 13 and 15 years old. Police say Degner and his wife denied the teens food, beat them and strapped them to their beds at night.
During court proceedings Degner referred to the abuse as discipline and that the treatment was a marital decision he and his wife both participated in.
Meagan Degner is expected to be sentenced in early April. Shawnn Degner is scheduled to be sentenced at 8:30 this morning in Eaton County circuit court. 6 News will be in the courtroom and will have updates online and on 6 News at Noon.
