ALLEGAN COUNTY (WLNS) – It started as a fire, turned into a homicide and ended with an arrest and though the fire started far from here, it’s a case that still hits close to home.
The three people who died are a woman, a boy, and a girl.
Firefighters found their bodies while tackling a house fire in Allegan County’s Dorr Township.
But the story doesn’t end there, it ended a few hours later and a few counties away, in mid-Michigan.
32-year-old Corey Lee LaValley was arrested last night in Eaton County.
Police believe he’s the one responsible for the death of a woman and her two children.
After firefighters found their bodies inside a burned mobile home Tuesday afternoon, one of them being LaValley’s son
“Through the course of the investigation, our detectives were obviously interviewing friends and family of the people we believed died in the fire and as a result of that, some additional information was obtained which ultimately led us to the Eaton County area,” Allegan County Undersheriff, Frank Baker said.
Undersheriff Baker says he believes LaValley was staying with a family member at a home in Charlotte where he was arrested by Eaton County Sheriff’s deputies and Charlotte Police officers Tuesday night.
“We did receive information that for us, established probable cause that Corey LaValley who is the father of one of the people, who we believe to be deceased..believe that he was involved in the criminal act that caused this,” Baker said.
Right now the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office is working with Michigan State Police to determine exactly what happened and why.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation tonight, meanwhile, LaValley remains behind bars at the Allegan County Jail.
He is expected to be in Allegan County District Court on homicide charges sometime tomorrow.
