(WLNS) – A new bill could change the way that we buy and sell event tickets.
Right now buying a ticket and reselling it for profit also known as ticket scalping is illegal but today Michigan lawmakers will hear testimony on legislation to legalize it.
Right now anyone looking to recoup the cost of a ticket including service fees, shipping or handling is guilty of a crime but the new bill could let them off the hook. It is called house bill number 4015 and supporters say the bill will give fans full ownership over their event tickets.
The new bill would actually repeal an earlier law classifying scalping as a misdemeanor.
Supporters call the law outdated and say it criminalizes citizens for participating in everyday transactions.
