EAST LANSING, MI (WLNS) – Very soon local farmers will be hitting their fields hoping for a successful crop and for the next two days, the Michigan Farmers Market Association will be feeding them tips on how to be successful at farmers markets.
There is a conference happening in East Lansing today and during the conference farmers market managers will be trained on how to implement bridge card and food assistance programs into their business models. Officials with the association say it will work to expand their customer base and nurture local economies. It will also offer more choices to people who benefit from food assistance programs.
The conference also offers a number of key note speakers, roundtable discussions and exhibits from vendors from all over the state.
Over the last decade the number of farmers markets in the state has more than tripled.
