Ballot To Increase MI Sales Tax Expected To Finalize Today

LANSING, MI (WLNS) – The Board of State Canvassers is expected to finalize the wording of a ballot proposal you will see in May to raise the sales tax in the Michigan.

Voters will be asked if they support increasing the sales tax from six percent to seven percent. It would eliminate the gas tax and instead create a wholesale tax on fuel.

If voters approve the proposal it could raise more than a billion dollars a year for roads while also generating more money for schools, transportation and local governments.

The board plans to meet today at the state capitol building.
