WILLIAMS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) – Michigan State Police officials want residents to know they can use posts as safe sites for conducting private business transactions in an effort to curb crime.
According to reports Thursday there have been incidents statewide of people being becoming victims of robbery. State police Lt. David Kaiser says it’s “a preventative measure for citizens to consider” when buying from or selling items to a stranger.
In one instance, a woman offered three rings on Craigslist. A man expressed interest and they agreed to meet in the parking lot of a restaurant, but he robbed her.
He pleaded guilty last year to larceny and was sentenced to prison.
State police officials previously have offered posts as safe places to conduct business when people call with concerns.
