Upper Peninsula Airport Used For Winter Chopper Tests

MARQUETTE, MI (WLNS) – As we know extreme cold and wintery conditions can have a negative effect on our vehicles.

The same goes for army helicopters and what better way to test of their performance in icy weather then to send them to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

The army choppers are flying from Alabama all the way to Sawyer International Airport near Marquette. A team of pilots will test the twin-engine AW189 helicopter with help from an Italian flight team.

It is not the first time the helicopters will experience freezing temperatures. The army did preliminary tests in Minnesota last year and is now performing more advanced tests.
