JACKSON, MI (WLNS) – When it’s cold outside there’s a place in Jackson that can warm your heart and your body.
The Jackson Drop-In-Center at 1009 West Michigan Ave. is where many go to find warmth and maybe even a little company.
“Here at the drop in center we serve members of the mental health community, so past of present consumers of mental health services can come for a warm cup of coffee play a little pool, chatting with friends, lunch,” said Carlisle Beauchane, executive director, Jackson Drop-In-Center
On cold days like this, the Drop-In-Center transforms into a warming center where anyone is welcome to drop in and warm up.
“It’s nice to have a place to, when it’s cold, to come in here and keep warm,” said Marymae Bubois, Jackson.
At this center they serve lunch, entertain and provide people the chance to be social when it’s too cold to go outside.
“I serve food, sometimes I do arts and crafts, there are all kinds of things to do here,” said Linda Cosgrobe, Jackosn.
But this center often gets full and they are quickly looking for a bigger place for their community.
“At any one time we can have 15-20 people sometimes 30 who are in this center.”
For now, this house on Michigan Avenue will have to do.
